Lighting upgrades & LED downlights.

Dated, dim or inefficient lighting makes a good home feel tired — and old halogen downlights run hot and cost more to run. The E-LEC team supplies, installs and neatly finishes LED downlights, feature lighting and outdoor lighting across Perth and the Perth Hills.

When lighting starts letting a home down

Lighting is one of the first things you notice in a room and one of the last things people get around to fixing. Older Perth and Hills homes often still run halogen downlights — they throw plenty of heat, use far more power than they need to, and the lamps fail regularly. Rooms end up patchy, with a mix of warm and cold globes and a few dead fittings nobody's replaced.

Elsewhere it's failed fittings that won't take a new globe, tired old batten holders, or dark outdoor areas — a driveway, path or entry with no proper light. Upgrading the lighting is usually a straightforward way to make a home feel brighter, more modern and cheaper to run, without touching the rest of the electrical system.

What we install

  • LED downlights — replacing old halogens, or fresh sets for renovations and new rooms
  • Pendants and feature lighting over benches, tables and stairwells
  • Exhaust fans and ceiling fans, including fan-and-light combinations
  • Outdoor, garden, sensor and security lighting for driveways, paths and entertaining areas
  • Dimming, where the fittings and dimmer are a compatible match

LED lighting generally uses less power and lasts longer than the halogen and incandescent fittings it replaces, so you spend less time up a ladder changing globes. We'll talk through the look and the light level you're after and match fittings to the room.

What's included

The exact scope depends on the job, but lighting work with E-LEC typically includes:

  • Product advice — helping you choose fittings, colour temperature and light levels
  • Safe removal and disposal of the old fittings
  • Supply and installation of the new lighting
  • Tidy ceiling make-good where it's practical
  • Testing to confirm everything works and switches as it should
  • A clean-up so we leave the space as we found it
  • Documentation appropriate to the work carried out

If the lighting upgrade uncovers something else — an overloaded circuit, tired wiring or a board that's out of room — we'll explain it plainly and let you know whether a switchboard upgrade or other work is worth doing at the same time.

FAQ

Lighting upgrade questions

Can you replace halogen downlights with LED?

Yes. Swapping old halogen downlights for modern LED fittings is one of the most common jobs we do. LEDs run cooler, use less power for the same light and last far longer, so you replace lamps far less often. We assess the existing fittings and wiring first, then supply and install LED downlights suited to the room.

Will new downlights need ceiling make-good?

Often the new fittings cover the same openings, so little or no patching is needed. Where hole sizes differ or fittings are being moved, some ceiling make-good may be required. We tidy up where it's practical and let you know up front if any patching or painting will fall to you.

Can you add dimming?

In many cases, yes — but the light fittings, the driver and the dimmer all need to be compatible. We check that the LEDs you want are dimmable and pair them with a suitable dimmer so they run smoothly without flicker or buzz. We'll tell you if a particular combination isn't a good match.

Do you do outdoor and security lighting?

Yes. We install outdoor, garden, sensor and security lighting — from a single sensor floodlight over a driveway to lighting around entertaining areas and paths. We make sure outdoor fittings are suited to their location and installed safely.
